His career has included serving as pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church in Los Angeles, Director for African Descent Ministries, and Director for Ethnic Specific Ministries within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Throughout his work, Rev. Starr has explored the intersection of race, culture, economics, faith, diversity, and community.
